Your photo looks great. How inventive and clever May.
Sounds wonderful to receive such wonderful surprises.
Have fun on Sunday ;D Neesie #9 (I think?)

I take my pics in dull light by aiming couple of lamps on the subject then I edit the pic in my photo programme. I've got a daylight bulb in one lamp now. I always intend to make a light box but never get to it.
Great blog candy, lucky you!
Love JoZarty
Have a great week

Bernice said...

Oh this looks like a good idea for your photos - my colours never turn out right, no matter what I try - is this a daylight lamp - maybe I need one of those! Cute card too!

Angie said...

Thanks for the peek! I have a similar set up for the pictures but I really don't worry about it very often!

Astrid Maclean said...

Here it's cloudy most of the time, so I do pretty much what you do, white background and then editing in a photo editing programme. Results are very mixed though.... Your photo (and card) look great if you ask me.

My camera doesn't take a good photo, I don't care what the lighting is (grin). Like your low cost setup. Have a super WOYWW from # 9 this week!

Wow! Sarah is so generous! Taking photos is a hit or miss thing with me. Mine often are a little dark. You have a clever solution! Enjoy WOYWWing!

I made a light box and I use an ott lamp on my desk. I think my camera helps a lot. #26

I've tired taking photos every which way but I get my best results doing exactly what you've done here except I use two lamps. Hven't got a clue how to edit except to crop.

Hi May! You know, I don't sweat taking my pictures too much. I probably should, but I don't. I just clear a spot on my work desk under my Ott light and snap away. I suppose I could go out on the patio and my table, that is, if the mosquitoes didn't cart me off to never never land!!! Sheri #25

Photos are not my strength, it isn't me it's the camera!!!! My hubbie is better at the pictures ..camera seems to work better for him, how is that?! Great candy, have fun at the weekend hugs trace x61

I have to agree it is always hard to take a great pic on a cloudy grey old day. Lovely candy you won.

Susan Flynn said...

Your goodies look fabulous May I am sure you will enjoy having a good play with them!! I'm like you with taking pictures - loads of white card around - lights on - card falls over - lots of oaths!! xx

It's quite hard to take a good looking pic of what I make as they're often quite large items - that's why I leave em on my desk or hang em on the back of the door, both of which are white so it seems to show off the fabric ok!
Hugs, LLJ #3 xx
PS Enjoy Ally Pally!

My craft room is north facing so I will try this idea, at the moment I just go with what comes out!
Congrats on your win, looks a lovely lot there X

Great blog candy - lucky you.
My camera is quite good at taking photos on a dull day - just put it on 'auto' and it sorts itself out then I tweak in the album software programme.

I just dodge the shadows the best way I can - might try your box idea some time - bet I forget! Doh!
Love the cards you do.

Thanks for sharing and have a lovely WOYWW day. Hugs, Neet #10 xx

Must try this May I use the white card but have such difficulty at dusk or in shadow. Hugs Elaine

I just take them anyway and hope for the best :) The way our house is oriented makes indirect light from the window (on the few sunny days) only possible for a very short time. Hate that, but I hate dragging stuff around the house to find a good spot even more :)

Hi May, I take my photos the same way as you do, but have to admit yours come out much better than mine. I would rather spend money on crafty stash than a new camera so I guess mine will stay the same. Lovely card you are photographing.

i use a ottilite lamp for my pictures and that makes a big difference.Have fun at Ally Pally

Hi May. I never thought of setting up a light box to get a better quality photo of a project. I think I will have to make one of those. My lighting gives everything a golden hue when I photograph it. Have a great shopping trip. Happy WOYWW Helen 35

I do the same when it's bad light. couple A3 card, Ottlite and away I go! Take care, enjoy WOYWW snooping! Love Zo xx 75

Very clever idea for your photos, May. I have two clip-on lamps and a floor-standing Anglepoise, all with daylight bulbs, so I can get good light whatever the weather. I also do a bit of manipulation in my editing software so it usually comes out OK!

Thanks for your nice comment on my blog and I'm glad you like my new background. It's still not perfect, but I'm working on it, and hopefully will get it sorted in the next few days.

As for my Choc-a-Bloc project, it's coming on nicely, but slowly! Everything takes a long time to dry, and I'm still planning (on the hoof) what I am going to do!

Happy WOYWW,

Hi May! Thanks for the lovely comment on my makes, You have made my day with your kind words! :))Well, taking photos is not my thing either. However I have bought a light box & some lights, but have not yet had any good results! Could do with some help myself! Congrats on winning the candy, how great to get a big box of goodies! Enjoy!

Nice box of goodies! Congratulations on your win. I have a couple of clamp lights with daylight bulbs and a frame of cardboard pieces. You can see my original post about it HERE. I've since changed the white velvet background cloth to an ivory linen.

Within that post is a link to Kira's blog, where she set up a plastic tub for her photos. It might be a good portable (stick it under the table when not in use) solution!

Cheers,

Morti said...

Congrats on your win! Well done!

Looks like you do exactly the same as me, except that I've not done it lately due to not making many cards!

I've seen it done where a cardboard box has "windows" cut out of three sides, and opaque parchment paper glued over to act as a diffuser for lights, and then have a range of coloured cloths for the inside. Not everything photographs well against white, and you must stay clear of black. Black shows up every speck of dust on it! Hope that helps!

Thanks for stopping by!

Not sure how to do it either. Most of the time, i just wait for a better day. I am not playing along this week, but had to stop by and say hi! Dani

I am rubbish as taking photos. I try all sorts but nothing seems to make them clearer. Mind you, If I could work my new camera properly it would help!! Fabulous candy, what a nice surprise! xx

A great little light box.....

If I cannot use direct sunlight, I put a piece of white card behind and another underneath, put my Ottlite on and my overhead light and use those. If the card s fairly flat, then I stick it into the scanner and use that. Thank you for your visit today and your kind comments. Have a good week. xx Maggie #2

Do you have manual setting on your camera? If you can adjust your shutter speed, you can make your photograph brighter, also by adjusting white balance when you edit helps too. waving hi from the windy hills of North Carolina #50

It is difficult to photograph on a cloudy day. I just go near a window and click, usually with a flash. Your stash looks great, the box the wooden flowers comes in is a wonderful display box too.

I have a hard time getting good photographs period! But I do get the best ones outside on sunny days (I'm in Arizona lots of sunny days here). I like your faux photo booth though! Since I rarely thing to photograph my cards during the day I may have to try this. And that is a fabulous box of goodies you have there. I'll bet you were tickled!

Hello May!
I LOVE your card!!! I love the rosettes and the hearts... And I LOVE the heart stamp! I need one!!!

Have a great week!

Lovely stuff from Sarah. I have a Ricoh camera which has a skew correction setting. On low light days, I stand on the chair so the flash is not too close and take a picture of my work on an angle. That eliminates glare from the flash and then the camera corrects the angles. I'll put up and example during the week. It's a great little camera.
Cheers,

Wow, what a lovely bunch of goodies you got from Sarah. She is very generous.
I just take a photo and go to photoshop and let it do the auto adjust thingy. I'm not a good photographer but it seems to adjust them really well most times.
Have a great week.

Hello May,

What great treats to get in the mail! Lucky you. As for pictures, I usually turn off my lights and use the camera flash. For my she art canvases I bought a white box and was outside in the sun to take those photos. I think for things that I try to sell that is what I'm going to do. It does help.

Thank you for your visit earlier today!

Hi May, it's just a nightmare trying to get a decent photo when the light is bad ... I know, I keep trying too. Can't help you with a good suggestion though, I tend to wander round the house looking for the perfect location :( Congratulations on your fab candy win from Sarah ... you'll have fun playing with it. Have a lovely weekend. Elizabeth x #26

I tend to use the flash on my camera, but stand well back and then zoom into the card, so the flash isn't too harsh on it, I like your idea, I have a daylight light so will give this a go. Lovely candy! have fun with that :o) x

I try to take my photos during the day and near to the window - I prefer natural light - mine come out a bit yellowish if I use electrical lighting. I never use a flash and always use the macro setting - hope this helps.

Congrats on winning Sarah's fab candy - and I hope you enjoyed yourself at AllyPally - look forward to seeing what you bought and hearing about who you met with your WOYWW badge on!

Sorry for such a late visit this week - thanks for your visit to my desk :)
